2012 was a great year, with the Olympics and some other major sporting events, Britain tool center stage and showed the world that we are still a nation that can perform at the very highest level. Mo Farah and co at the Olympics were spectacular, Ben Aisle winning another gold medal in eccentric style in the sailing. There was one group though that shown more than most – the cyclists.
On and off the track, the British cycling team were simply unbeatable. It all started with Bradley Wiggins cleaning up in the Tour De France and a number of other high profile events. When the Olympics came, it was there time to shine. Chris Hoy was yet again on top form winning even more gold medals. He is now Britain’s greatest ever Olympian. Victoria Pendleton also had a great Olympics; despite being disqualified in one of here favorite events, she came back to win a gold and a silver.
There were so many other names that performed extremely well. Many many more medals on the track and Wiggo even managed to secure one in the time trial. It wasn’t all good though – in the road race, team sky just couldn’t control it the way they would like – it seems that a hard year certainly took it’s tole on the rider. Mark Cavendish missed out on the chance of gold two years running – it doesn’t look like it was ever ment to be for the mancsman.
